Can You Make that Face?

It's always fun to learn new makeup tricks, so here are a few I thought I would share.

Powder Application-Puff up your cheeks and look like you are blowing up a balloon. That way your powder won't settle in your wrinkles.

Color Blush--Suck in your cheeks like you were eating a lemon and apply along the top cheek bone.

Mascara--tilt your head up and apply from underneath the lashes.

Concealer under your eye--Look down with your head. Otherwise, you will miss those dark spots.

Lid--eyeshadow--Tilt your head like you are a snob!

Eyeliner--Pretend you are playing peek a boo. Riase your brows and line your
lid with feather strokes from the outside in. If you're unstead, lean your elbow on the counter.

Experiment and have fun!!

Celebrity Wednesday--Jane Fonda of course!

Well, we all know Jane Fonda looks great and who wouldn't with all that exercise.
I purposely chose the photo with the glasses, to put all of us who wear cheaters at ease. Glamorous at any age! However, any size and shape could take hints from this exercise guru. Monochromatic is the way to go. You can pretty much wear any color, at any size, but when you break it up with two colors, especially not of the same shades, or with prints, you age yourself. Use accent pieces if you want a print, such as a scarf. Breaking up your silouette can make you appear stodgy, and aging even if you are svelte.

Animal Prints Take to the Runway

Animal prints are definitely in. They have moved to the runway and can move into your fashion wardrobe as well. On a recent trip to the mall, I checked out these adorable flats at JC Penney Pair these with a fashionable pair of jeans, a short jacket and even a matching print scarf. You will definitely be the "cat's meow."

Exactly What is the New Sixty?

I like what Jane Fonda writes in her new book:Forever Young and would love to share it with all you youngsters!!

The definition of what it is to be over 50 has radically changed in the past 20 years. The 80's marked the beginning, where a 40 year old [woman] could still be attractive and play lead roles in life and on the big screen (remember Joan Collins in Dynasty?).
Now two decades later, 50 most defiantly isn't old; 60 is an acceptable age where women are still attractive - And as time goes by, latter ages will follow - by 2023, being 70 will be seen as an amazing time of age to live and experience new things in life.
Each day continues the social conscience of age and beauty.
Sounds too good to be true? Well it is true and the reality of the world around us. People over 50 who refuse to grow "old" are the one paving the way for generations to come.

The following [page material] is all from Jane Fonda's Women Coming of Age - the book is well worth reading at any age. Check your library.

Christopher and Banks

Happy days are here again :) For all of us over forty who have less than perfect gams--it is refreshing to see a variety of style lengths. Because I am over 5 5", I no longer have to shun skirts and dresses in favor of pants making fashion fun again.

This weekend I also discovered a new store Christopher and Banks which claims Fits to Flatter at prices you will love. So length is up to you. Prices are varied as well. I got this denim skirt on clearance at Christopher and Banks for $6.99--but you have to love to bargain shop. I passed the skirt twice, before I spied it and tried it on. Perfect. Now go and enjoy another side of feminine again.

Blythe Danner--Bone Health and Looking Great at 68

Blythe revealed last month that she is one of the estimated 10 million Americans who has osteoporosis, a disease that causes bones to weaken, making them susceptible to fractures.
Her first indication was when she broke her foot a few years ago. She began to seriously do everything she could to strengthen her bones
She was a major contributor to Act2ReduceFractures.com which is sponsored by Bone Health organization. She encourages lifestyle changes like diet and exercise which are important to keep our bones in good health.
The biggest change in Danner’s life since her osteoporosis diagnosis is a regular exercise schedule, and not just any exercise: She’s learned the importance of doing weight-bearing activities like walking, which help to increase bone mass by forcing your musculoskeletal system to work against resistance or gravity and thereby build strength. “You can swim and do all of these other things, but you need to really hit the floor and get impact,” Danner explains. “That’s what really strengthens the bones.” She is fairly diligent about walking for at least 30 minutes every day.
She’s even figured out some creative ways to fit strength training into her life. “If I’m out shopping, I’ll always carry one of the recyclable bags,” Danner says, adding that she never uses plastic (“that’s such a no-no”). “I’ll put half my groceries in that and half in my purse, so I kind of balance it out, and that’s how I get my weight-bearing walking wherever I am.”
Diet is important as well. Vitamin D and calcium are a must including lots of leafy green vegetables such as kale..
“I don’t want to be one of those sad ladies who have to use a walker or cane too early,” she says. “It’s really mandatory that I do this because I want to be an active grandmother. And I want to keep acting — so much so that I’d like to drop dead on stage,” she somewhat teasingly admits. “That would be my dream.”

Hair Color Stretch Your Dollar

Aging gracefully is a thing of the past -- and, for many Americans, so are gray hairs. About 3/4 of women and men in the US color their hair, not at cheap treat by any stretch of the imagination. Thinking of doing it yourself? Here are some handy hints to help your look like you just stepped out of the salon.

The average cost of a professional single-process hair-color treatment is about $62. Considering that professionally dyed hair needs to be touched up every six weeks, you can rack up some $500 in salon bills each year.

Some people try to save money with at-home color kits, which can cost anywhere from $3.92 to $9.94 at Walmart, depending on the brand. With each home coloring lasting about eight weeks, the annual expense comes to around $50 -- significantly less than the salon alternative. Unfortunately, these savings can come at a price.

With do-it-yourself hair-color kits, you run the risk of damaging your hair or ending up with the wrong color. "At home, customers apply color from roots to end, but I only do what's needed, and I don't overlap color," says Kacey Welch, colorist at Neil George Salon in Beverly Hills. "A client can damage their hair long term, and corrective color is more expensive."

Fixing a bad dye job with a professional corrective color treatment usually costs more than the original single-process color. Also many professionals mix colors to get the perfect fix.

Buy Yourself More Time by mixing only one-tenth of the dye in an at-home kit and use a Q-tip or toothbrush to apply the color to their roots and part lines. With careful application, these touch-ups can stretch your dye job by one or two weeks If you decide to take this route, make sure to use a ammonia-free dye like Clairol Natural Instincts.

Good Housekeeping and Consumer Reports both named Clairol a top at-home hair-dye brand. You can get the dye at Walmart for $6 to $10 per box. Factoring in the costs of combining salon visits and touch-up kits, you'd spend approximately $420 per year, knocking off the cost of about one salon trip from your yearly expenses. Keep in mind that you'll probably have to use some of that money toward replacing stained towels and cleaning up the mess after your touch-ups.

All things considered, there's no real shortcut to great hair color. But with caution and care, you can buy yourself some extra time between salon visits
