Are Bangs Better than Botox?

Goldie Hawn

Candace Bergen

When I was in second grade and intensely focused on reading my second grade teacher told me not to scrunch up my forehead because I would get wrinkles. Even today, when I'm tense, I feel that same forehead scrunched up. I consciously try to relax it but always go back to my wrinkle causing expression. Soooooo, the question becomes Botox or Bangs. Anyone can wear bangs. They are fantastic because they hide fine lines on your forehead, and give a dated haircut some pizazz. Don't go for the straight across little girl bang, pushing yours off to the side with an angled cut will soften the face and play up your eyes and cheekbones. According to the experts to avoid the little girl look brush your bangs back and forth as you dry them, pointing the nozzle down. Celebrity stylists sometimes use gel to hold the hair to the side, or let the locks hang free so they can sweep and fall differently for photo-ops

Eek, What Can I Do With My Hair?

What can I do with my hair.

It seems like aging hair is a big challenge for many. Mine reacts instantly to stress
becoming thin and dull. Evidentally, in your 60’s each strand has a finer outer cuticle layer which means it is more fragile and needs to be treated more gently. I’ve found that ensuring a diet rich in biotin—from such sources as green peas, oats, walnuts, brewers yeast, brown rice and sunflower seeds helps.
Also, a volumizing shampoo will make your hair look fuller. John Frieda’s root awakening shampoo works well. It says it improves hair health with natural eucalyptus—a strength restoring shampoo. It is for breakage prone hair. It has made an amazing difference in my hair, giving it a fuller appearance.
Another hair trick is using an at home glaze once a month. Healthy Sexy Hair Reinvent Top Coat makes a one that you work into your hair, if it is straight, leaving it on for five minutes and rinsing. If you have curly hair, the hair needs to be wet and conditioned before use.
On days when you don’t need to wash your hair, a root lifting spray works well. Spray at roots and blow dry the way you would if you just washed your hair.
A chin length hair cut will keep your hair manageable and chic. Coloring can help you to feel young and vibrant and can positively change the texture of your hair.
Experiment, have fun and enjoy—be savvy at 60

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ--Pleasant Dreams

Ahhh, I get home from work and am full of thoughts about what’s important at sixty. This is partly a blog about beauty at a bargain, but also to talk about how sixty feels. Of course, sixty is the new forty, so everyone says. I don’t remember having insomnia at forty, however.
One of the things we all seem to have in common is sleep, or lack of it. I seem to have an abundance of energy, especially at three in the morning. It’s when the mind seems to remind you of everything you need to remember tomorrow and everything you forgot to do today. I visit my thirty-something son for dinner and am full of vim, vigor and vitality while he is yawning away, ready for a good nights sleep. According to Women’s World, “Research proves women who get a good night’s sleep are slimmer, happier, have better memories and a lower risk of serious disease—yet more than 48% of us struggle with insomnia!!”(March 28, 2011). One of my most common phrases to my friends is. . . . “You should have called me, I was up as well.”
So what can we do. My best fix is to put on a happy movie and proceed to fall asleep. A little green tea often helps, and the biggest help is to get at least 30 minutes of exercise, preferably walking outside, a day. For some reason, the treadmill or inside exercise just isn’t the same thing. And exercising too close to bedtime seems to rev the body up. Of course, dieting can interfere with your sleep as well. Going to bed hungry, is a good way to have a restless night. Cortisol levels increase spiking blood sugar and zap, you are awake and ready to go. A carb rich snack will often take the edge off. Or maybe you have aches and pains you don’t even notice. Take care of them, and your sleep will be peaceful. It may be as simple as a more comfy pair of PJ’s or an extra blanket on your bed.
How about soaking your feet or sniffing frankincense. Whatever your solution, Sweet Dreams!!

Handbags--They Tell Your Age

An easy pick me up anytime is a new handbag. You don't have to lose that last five pounds to enjoy a new bag, yet a surefire way to tell a woman's age is to check out her handbag. Have fun in your choice by choosing lively colors--for spring--turquoise, pink, orange, violet, yellow or blue. Handbags should be in a good proportion to your size. Pick the bag that makes you feel super-confident. Shoulder bags that fit under the armpit (not too tiny or huge) are one of the most flattering. TJ Maxx has an incredible selection of purses for up to 60% off of their original price.

Jeans--What Do You Think?

I love the fit of Newport News Jeans--so many shapes and colors to choose from. I bought the denim and black and the classic fit was perfect. To me jeans are for comfort and hanging around--these are wonderful for that--they're well made with good fabric that washes well, and doesn't shrink or stretch. They offer an assortment of styles so there is a fit for you in multiple colors. The black jeans, however, once they were washed didn't look as nice--collecting lint but the fit was still perfect. And what better price, they often go on sale at 2 pairs for $19 each!!
