Sun kissed, not crisped

The days are longer and more enticing. I love to be outside as much as possible--but the sun and wind can certainly take it's toll, especially for those of us who baked when we were young.

During and after menopause there are subtle changes to your skin. Skin can become drier. A good moisturizer becomes really important We've discused moisturizers but not your sun protection.

A high SPF formula is very important during these years. Keep a sun protector in the car and by the door so you never leave the house without it.Having several containers in strategic places will help you develop the habit of putting it every time you will be in the sun. According to anitiaging articles.com

1. Use a good sunscreen on your face and neck every day. There is no question that ultraviolet radiation from the sun damages our collagen and elastic tissue and leads to pigmentation (brown spots), broken capillaries, dullness, and wrinkles. Use an SPF of at least 15 for everyday; higher if you’re going to be out all day. Look for a sunscreen that contains one or more of the following ingredients: avobenzone, Mexoryl, Tinosorb, zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. These compounds filter Ultraviolet A, which contributes to skin aging and pigmentation. Choose a sunscreen that has a vehicle your skin likes (light lotions for oilier skin types, creamier versions for dry skin types.)

2. Use an antioxidant serum under your sunscreen. Antioxidants give our skin an extra layer of protection from sun-induced free radicals, which damage our skin. There are many antioxidants out there, but the one with the most science behind it is Vitamin C. Some examples of good products are Cellex C, Philosophy Save Me, and DDF C3 Plus Serum.
